The first ship operating with liquefied gas to reach eastern Saudi Arabia

King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam received the first container ship fully powered by environment-friendly liquefied natural gas (LNG). The ship is 366 meters long, 51 meters wide, and 16 meters deep.

The General Authority for Ports stated that the ship entered service in 2022, and follows the French shipping line CMA CGM, stressing that the arrival of this ship confirms the high readiness of Saudi ports to receive this type of ship.

It also enhances the Kingdom’s position as a leading logistics center and a connecting hub for the three continents, and increases the competitive capabilities of King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam, and the operator of the two container terminals, the Saudi International Ports Company “SGP”, of high-tech logistical equipment, which enhances its operational capabilities to handle various types of goods. and containers.
Saudi Green Initiative
This step comes as an encouragement to receive this type of ship, in line with the goals of the Saudi Green Initiative, which seeks to reduce carbon emissions by 278 million tons annually by 2030.

It is noteworthy that the Jeddah Islamic Port received in 2021 the ship Jacques Saadeh of the French shipping line CMA CGM, which is the first and largest container ship in the world that operates entirely on environmentally friendly liquefied natural gas with the LNG system, on its first visit to Saudi Arabia with a capacity of 23 thousand containers and a length of 400 meters. Its width is 61 meters, which was completed and entered into service in September 2020.
