“Serious infection” forces Madonna to postpone her concerts

American pop star Madonna said on Monday that all her concerts that she would perform as part of her upcoming North American tour will be postponed until she recovers from a serious infection that forced her to be hospitalized for several days.

Madonna was due to start her tour in Vancouver, Canada, this month.

Madonna wrote on Twitter that the plan now is to start the tour in Europe in October.

Tour organizer Live Nation said it would announce new dates for Madonna’s North American concerts “as soon as possible” and encouraged fans to stock up on tickets.

Madonna, 64, spent several days in intensive care last month as she underwent treatment for a bacterial infection.
Madonna said in her first public statements since entering the hospital, “I am now focused on my health and on getting stronger and I assure you that I will return to you as soon as possible.”

She also thanked the fans for their “positive energy, prayers, and words of encouragement,” saying, “I felt your love. I’m on the road to recovery and so grateful for all the blessings in my life.”
