“She’s so lucky! She’s a star.” Those are the lyrics Britney Spears sang in her haunting and eerily prophetic song “Lucky” back in 2002, but as we’re well aware (and as the song details), the lives of pop stars aren’t always so easy. Spears recently shared an Instagram post where she talked about the stress of the music industry, specifically touring. But she also took the opportunity to highlight the one show that really made her feel “like a star.”
“I was in the music industry for over half of my life!!!” Spears wrote at the beginning of her caption. “I was told by someone who directed movies that the music industry is a different beast…especially touring!!! It’s fun at first but if you’ve done it for a while, being in a different city constantly gets pretty draining!!! I have done like 10 tours!!!”
However, while Spears highlighted how draining it can be to do tours around the world, she also took the opportunity to discuss one of her favorite past performances. The “Womanizer” singer included a video from her 2003 ABC television special, titled Britney Spears: In the Zone. In the clip, Spears is seen singing her Grammy-winning song, “Toxic.”
The Louisiana native explained why she loved this performance, writing, “Well…as I looked back at my career and I realized the one thing I did that required the least effort…like at all…was my favorite thing I have ever done!!! 3 days of rehearsal, 1 day of dress rehearsal and performing just 5 songs, shot to a T on a TV set!!! It took 45 minutes to shoot…I remember afterwards being like, “Wow that was easy, can we do it again???”
Spears continued elaborating, saying, “The lighting, everything was brilliant!!! WAYYY different than hauling 4 trucks and 300 people on a tour where I couldn’t even have coffee!!!! Just shedding light on a time where it didn’t feel like work AT ALL…a time where I actually felt like a star instead of my family being the star!!!”
This concert special aired on ABC in November 2003 and it was filmed at the Gotham Hall in New York City. The setlist included a number of Spears’s hits at the time, including “Toxic,” “Everytime” and “Me Against the Music.”
