Despite the high average age of the population in Germany, men still die about 5 years before women, according to statistics from the Federal Statistical Office in Germany.
Scientists looked at the reasons that might lead to this result, and they suggested that the reason is that some men lose the “Y” chromosome in part of their cells as they age, which makes them more susceptible to disease.
And the German “Tagesshow” website quoted cardiologist Andreas Zayer, from Frankfurt University Hospital, as confirming that “in the past two or three years, studies have shown that the deficiency of the Y chromosome in men causes many health problems.”
He pointed out that this deficiency leads to several diseases in men, including cardiovascular diseases, Alzheimer’s and diabetes, as well as traditional diseases associated with ageing and aging such as macular degeneration.
The site explained that the “X” and “Y” chromosomes are filamentous bodies found in the nucleus of a living cell and carry genetic information, and in cells in women there are usually two “X” chromosomes, while in men they have only one “Y” chromosome and a chromosome An extra “Y” is also present, but it is much smaller than the “X” chromosome and ensures the development of male sexual characteristics in the fetus. However, the “Y” chromosome is missing in men.
He pointed out that this mutation has been known to doctors for a long time, but what was discovered recently is the implications for men’s health.
The site pointed out that a team of researchers in America conducted experiments on animals, and was able to “show the important role that the Y chromosome plays in health.”
The results of the experiments, according to the scientific magazine “Science”, showed that blood cells that do not contain the “Y” chromosome caused infections in animals, not only in the heart, but also in the lungs and kidneys.
Until now, scientists have not come up with a treatment that treats the deficiency of the “Y” chromosome, nor the way in which it can be prevented from lack of cells in men.
In 2018, fatherly revealed that the age gap between the sexes is a relatively recent phenomenon. Until 1850, men and women had the same life expectancy, while the gap began to widen steadily since 1918.
She pointed to a study that attributed one of the reasons for the relative short age of males to the male hormone, as it was associated with serious health problems, including high cholesterol, but it cannot be ignored that about 287,000 women die each year due to complications of pregnancy and childbirth.
The researchers identified two main factors for the age gap between the sexes, namely, that men practice more dangerous jobs, and at the same time do not get the necessary health care, and include the most dangerous jobs such as logging, fishing, construction and other professions that are dominated by males.
It is also indicated that men are 50% more likely than women to die of heart disease and by suicide, and prostate cancer is the third cause of death in men.
