The German newspaper Bild reported, quoting local officials, that a child died and another was seriously injured, Thursday, after they were hit by a train and pulled on a railway line in the western German town of Recklinghausen.
Police confirmed that a number of young people had been involved in a train accident, but declined to give further details.
Bild indicated that a freight train dragged the two victims for several hundred meters, adding that the accident occurred between two stations.
It was not clear how the accident occurred and whether there were any more children involved, but reports in local media said that about 35 fire and rescue personnel were deployed to the scene.
It was reported that rescue teams were searching for victims on the railway line using drones.
Recklinghausen police declined to say how many were injured or if any of them had died.
