Man jailed for beating his girlfriend after she refused to show him her smartphone

A South Korean court has convicted a man for imprisoning and beating his girlfriend for refusing to show him the contents of her smartphone.
The Jeju Provincial Court found the defendant, 41, guilty of forcibly dragging the victim into a bar he owned and detaining her last March. Court documents showed that the assault lasted 3 hours and 50 minutes, according to the Korean “Yonhap” agency.
On Monday, the court sentenced the man to 10 months in prison.
The defendant also threatened to harm himself with a kitchen knife.
In its ruling, the court said that “the accused has a record of multiple prison convictions for assault, sexual offenses and theft in the past, and this offense was committed during the period of accumulated crimes.”
