Barcelona coach, Xavi Hernandez, described the return of his former player, Lionel Messi, to him as “impossible” now, after the club’s president, Joan Laporta, hinted at his return to the place where he made his fame.
“Messi has a contract and it is impossible to return now,” the Barcelona coach told reporters in Dallas, on Monday evening, before the next friendly match against Juventus in the Italian league.
“We’ll see in the future, this is not the time to talk about it.”
And Barcelona club president, Joan Laporta, said in media statements that “Messi is the best football player in the world and in history,” and added that “Messi’s story with Barcelona is not over yet, but now is not the time to talk about it.”
Laporta added to ESPN: “Messi was everything for Barcelona, perhaps the greatest player, the most efficient, and for me he can only be compared to Johan Cruyff, but his departure had to happen one day, we had to take A decision as a result of what we inherited.”
Barcelona was forced to release Messi, 35, last summer, after collecting more than one billion pounds of debt.
Messi signed a two-year contract with Paris Saint-Germain, but he has struggled to make an impact in France, scoring just 6 goals in Ligue 1 in his first season.
