The US state of California witnessed a theft, targeting an armored truck loaded with jewels and precious stones, which was heading north towards Los Angeles.
The burglary occurred in the early hours of July 11 in Fraser Park as a Brink Security Services truck was taking it to a storage facility, said Brandy Swanson, director of the International Gem and Jewelery Show, which hosts retail fairs in locations across the United States. .
Authorities initially reported the theft in Lancaster, northern Los Angeles County, but FBI officials later confirmed the location was in Fraser Park, about 80 kilometers to the west in Kern County.
Speaking to KCAL9, one of the vendors said: “They were all precious jewels, but they’re gone. On Sunday you had goods, today you have nothing.”
According to Swanson, the theft included between 25 and 30 jewelry lockers and precious stones belonging to 18 individual exhibitors at the San Mateo fair, south of San Francisco, and those goods were on their way to storage before their last scheduled show in Pasadena.
No further details were released regarding the theft incident, Reuters reported.
