The United States witnessed a crime whose events seem like a movie scenario, as a jury charged Alex Mordo, who belongs to one of the most prestigious American families, accused of killing his wife and son, while highlighting strange incidents and events related to him, which occurred over the years, including the murder of His maid and subjecting him personally to an attempted murder, which turned out to be his plan.
On Thursday, a jury in Colleon County, South Carolina, charged Alex Mordo with murder and possession of a weapon during the violent crime that killed his wife Maggie and son Paul 13 months ago.
According to the indictments issued Thursday morning, Mr. Mordo shot his wife with a shotgun and killed his son Paul with a shotgun at the family’s sprawling home in Islandton, South Carolina.
The events began on June 7, 2021, when Maggie, 52, and Paul, 22, were found shot dead in the family’s hunting house.
At that time, the prominent lawyer Mordo called the police in tears, claiming that he had found the bodies of his wife and son, stressing that he did not see anyone else in the place, and it turned out later that the crime was committed with two different weapons, a rifle and a pistol.
Over the course of 13 months, the crime remained without suspects, until the police decided to arrest the husband after discovering new evidence, as sources close to the investigation said that the blood splattered on the husband’s (53-year-old) clothes proves that he was close to one of the two victims when the shooting took place. And not as he claimed that he was not at home at the time of the crime.
Audio and video clips of Mordo talking to his wife were also found on his son Paul’s phone, before he was killed, recorded at the time the husband claimed he was out of the house.
Mysterious death, fraud and attempted suicide
What made the details of this crime strange, and made it look like a Hollywood movie, was the killing of the maid who worked with the family for 20 years, and she was found lying down a staircase in the family home in 2018.
No accusation was brought against any of the family members, and the incident was treated as the result of an accident at work.
A legal settlement was reached with the maid’s family, receiving $3.4 million in compensation from suppliers, but the amount was ultimately not paid.
Mordo himself was also shot while changing his tire on the side of the road, resulting in a head injury, but he managed to call the police and was rescued.
It later emerged that Mordue had hired a hitman to kill him, so that his other son, Buster, could get $10 million in insurance.
The incident came a day after the law firm’s supplier partners accused him of embezzling millions of dollars from their clients and expelled him from the firm.
After surviving a roadside shooting, Mordue decided to enter a rehab to get rid of his 20-year addiction to drugs.
As for the murdered son, Paul, was also about to face the court, accused of driving a boat under the influence of anesthetic, after he wrecked the boat he was driving with a 19-year-old friend, which led to the death of the latter.
