The head of the German Federation of Trade Unions, Yasmine Fahimi, announced the danger of stopping entire industries in the country, due to a shortage of gas.
The President of the German Federation of Trade Unions, Fahimi, came during an interview with the newspaper “Bild Am”, during which she said: “Entire industries are at constant risk of collapse, including aluminum, glass and chemical industries,” noting that “such a collapse will have serious consequences for the entire economy and jobs in Germany.” “.
In a related context, the German Vice Chancellor and Minister of Economy and Climate Protection, Robert Halfbeck, warned of the danger of successive failures in the operation of municipal energy institutions, with the increasing reduction in Russian gas supplies.
He pointed out that after the recent decrease in gas pumping through the “Northern Stream” gas transmission line by 60%, “Berlin needs to prepare for a further reduction in supplies, because this is consistent with Moscow’s strategy to “undermine European unity”,” as he put it.
He stressed that the lack of gas is likely to lead to a deep recession in the country, and added: “If one or several companies fail, this will lead to a deep recession very quickly,” according to the American “Bloomberg” agency.
According to him, electricity suppliers can use the right to raise prices, despite initial contractual obligations. However, the German authorities have so far refrained from such measures, as this will surely lead to an “immediate jump in prices” for consumers.
German leaders are intensifying their warnings about the upcoming turmoil and lack of natural gas supplies in Europe’s largest economy, which depends on Russia for about a third of its energy supplies. Russia gradually reduced supplies after European countries imposed sanctions in response to the military operation in Ukraine.
