Canada plans to increase aid to the United Nations World Food Program

Canadian International Development Minister Harjit Sagan said Friday that the Canadian government intends to allocate additional funds to the United Nations World Food Program to provide immediate humanitarian assistance.
“Just yesterday, our Prime Minister announced an additional 250 million Canadian dollars (192 million US dollars) in new funding to support urgent humanitarian assistance, and we are working to implement plans for more aid,” Sagan added.
Earlier, Canada provided the World Food Program with 500 million Canadian dollars (385 million US dollars).
On Thursday, on the sidelines of the Commonwealth Heads of State meeting in Kigali, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that his country would provide 250 million Canadian dollars (192 million US dollars) to the World Food Program.
It is noteworthy that the World Food Program is the food aid branch of the United Nations and the largest humanitarian organization in the world focusing its work on combating hunger and providing food security.
