Ukraine does not have a bright future

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said today, Friday, that the West has been toying with Ukraine’s desire to join the European Union for many years, noting that this country “has not obtained any bright future.”
Speaking about plans to grant Ukraine the status of a candidate for EU membership, Zakharova noted: “This is, of course, the decision of their integration association.”
She added: “We see how for many years this Western society has been toying with some kind of participation of Ukraine in their integration structures. But at the same time, unfortunately, Ukraine is getting worse. For some reason, it does not get any bright future, although the promises turn sweet. More and more attractive.
She asked, “Why is this happening?”
The European Commission’s Governing Council on Friday recommended to the European Council granting Ukraine and Moldova the status of a candidate to join the European Union, while the issue of granting it to Georgia should be postponed for the time being. The decision to grant or reject the status of candidates will be taken by the Heads of State and Government of the European Union at the summit to be held in Brussels on 23-24 June, taking into account the recommendation of the European Commission.
“Following the weekly meeting of commissioners, positive results have been reached with regard to the application of Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova to join the European Union,” European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen told a joint press conference with the European Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement, Oliver Varheli.
“The Commission concluded with the European Council’s recommendation to grant Ukraine the status of a candidate country to join the European Union, as Ukraine is part of the European project and has successfully met most of the European criteria,” she added.
The French president had said earlier that the European Union is now ready to give Ukraine the status of a candidate for membership, and the European Union has no right to tell the Ukrainians to come later.
Macron said that the process of Ukraine’s accession to the European Union could take several years, and possibly decades. In this regard, he called for the creation of a new “European political alliance” that could accept Ukraine into its ranks, along with the United Kingdom.
A number of European countries oppose granting Ukraine the status of a candidate for European Union membership, including Germany, the Netherlands, and Austria, while the United States asserts that the decision to include Kyiv is solely due to the decisions of the bloc (the Union) alone.
