Egypt announces a new archaeological discovery dating back to the era of King Khufu

The Egyptian Ministry of Antiquities announced a new archaeological discovery made by the joint Egyptian-German archaeological mission operating in the Matareya region (Heliopolis).

Dietrich Rau, head of the mission from the German side, said that the mission revealed parts of the sarcophagi and altars from the era of Kings Amenemhat IV, Sobekhotep IV, Ay, Seti I, Osorkon I, Takelot I, and Psamtik I.
Rao added that a quartz sculptural model in the form of the Sphinx of King Amenhotep II and the base of a huge pink granite monkey statue of a baboon was also discovered.
