Inventive edible adhesive tape to seal sandwiches

When eating large sandwiches, some people are upset that their ingredients come out of the bread, which causes a mess and reduces the enjoyment of those sandwiches.
And the Italian magazine “Focus” said that a group of 4 students in the Faculty of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering from Johns Hopkins University created an edible adhesive tape through which sandwiches could be closed and their ingredients were kept in their correct place while eating.
The announcement of this innovation came on the third of last May during the activities of Engineering Design Day, which is dedicated by John Hopkins University to present innovative projects submitted by students.

The students named the inventive tape ‘Tastee Tape’, which was conceived during their lunch break when one of the four creatives dropped the contents of a sandwich she was eating, said Tyler Guarino, one of the four inventors.
It is noteworthy that the materials from which the edible tape is made are still classified, as the patent application for this tape is still pending, but it is clear that it is an organic adhesive combined with an edible fibrous structure.
“We tested 50 different combinations before coming up with the right one, and to activate its adhesive properties, the tape must be dipped in water for a few moments, then dried once placed on the sandwich, keeping the two edges of the bread together and preventing the ingredients from coming out,” Guarino adds.
According to the students, the cost of producing a small piece of this tape is one cent, and a package of 50 pieces can be sold for five dollars, with a profit of 900%, and in the future Taste Tape can become a double-sided adhesive, and thus can be used in dishes Others, or even a different flavored adhesive, to give different flavors to foods.
