A US jury on Wednesday issued a verdict convicting actress Amber Heard of defaming her ex-husband, Johnny Depp, by promoting allegations that she assaulted her and subjected her to domestic violence.
The jury awarded Johnny Depp $15 million in damages, while the ex-husband was seeking $50 million in damages.
On Wednesday, the seven members of the panel reached a decision, in Fairfax court, near Washington, after deliberations that took about 13 hours, which began Friday and continued as of Tuesday.

The “Pirates of the Caribbean” star sued Amber Heard, 36, for publishing an article in The Washington Post in 2018 that described herself as a “public figure who is a model of domestic violence.”
Although Heard did not explicitly mention Johnny Depp’s name in that article, the famous actor considered that the article tarnished his reputation and undermined his career, and demanded compensation of 50 million dollars, according to AFP.
The actress, who has appeared notably in the films “Aquaman” and “Justice League,” launched a counter-attack, demanding her ex-husband to pay a double compensation of $100 million.
Heard accuses Depp’s former lawyer of defaming her by telling the press in April 2020 that what she wrote about her exposure to domestic violence were lies.
The trial witnessed a public display of the secrets of the two stars’ private lives in front of millions of viewers who followed the proceedings of its sessions on television stations around the world.
