Researchers and scientists have captured unique sightings of the exotic and rare dragon fish deep in the waters of Monterey Bay, California.
At first glance, this strange fish appears to be a kind of fine bronze cigar, appearing as a rather small chip, with a slight sheen, but the rapid oscillation at the end of this rare cigar reveals the identity of the creature.
Scientists call this rare bronze creature the high-finned dragon fish (Bathophilus flemingi), and among all the deep-sea dragon fish in Monterey Bay, this is one of the rarest, according to the article published in the scientific journal “sciencealert”.
The Monterey Research Institute said in a series of tweets on Twitter, “After more than three decades of deep-sea research and more than 27,600 hours of filming, we’ve only seen this particular species four times!”
The scenes were recorded at a depth of approximately 300 meters (1,000 feet), as the dragon fish was heading to the depths, according to “Live Science”.
The high-finned dragonfish is a skilled swimmer, covered in an iridescent mantle of bronze scales, while the other species are not colorful.
