After spending days with his head stuck in an old tire, volunteers help a fox puppy out of its deadly predicament.
The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) said a family in Orpington, England, reported the birth of two foxes in their garden enclosure, but the animals’ mother had not been seen for some time.
The family contacted the association when they discovered that one of the puppies’ head was stuck in the heart of an old tire.
Rodney Kinney, one of the rescuers working for the association, said: “I knew there was no time to waste, as it was possible that the puppy had been stuck for several days without food or water, so it had to be released as soon as possible.”
He added: “The little foxes are incredibly curious, and we are often called upon to deal with puppies who have gotten themselves into trouble.”
Kenny explained that the owners of the house carried the tire with the fox outside, adding: “With more space to work in and the use of liquid soap, I was able to gently remove the animal’s head from the tire and it appeared to be in good condition despite its ordeal.”
He pointed out that “the puppy and his brothers are too small to take care of themselves,” explaining that “his brothers were taken to a center specialized in the care of wild animals.”
