Billionaire Elon Musk refused an offer to join the board of directors of the American Twitter company, Twitter, even though he became the largest shareholder in it, with a 9.2 percent stake.
The world’s richest man was scheduled to become a member of Twitter’s board of directors on Saturday, but the company’s CEO, Parag Agrawal, announced on Monday morning that Elon Musk had rejected the offer.
“I think this is for the best,” Agrawal wrote on Twitter.
“We always value input from our shareholders, whether they are members of our board or not, and Elon is our largest shareholder and we will remain open to his input and suggestions,” he added.
Agrawal went on to say in his statement that the board was “clear about the risks” of Elon Musk’s joining the board, and that they believed that appointing Musk as the company’s fiduciary agent “must act in the best interests of the company and all of our shareholders” is the best way forward.
However, Agrawal added, Musk told the company on Saturday, the day his appointment was due to become effective, that he would not join the board.
Agrawal continued: “There will be distractions in the future, but our goals and priorities remain unchanged. The decisions we make and how they are implemented are in our hands and no one else. Let’s control the noise and continue to focus on work and what we are building.”

The refusal of Elon Musk (who has 81 million active followers) to join the board of directors of “Twitter”, after he proposed in a series of tweets through his account that radical changes be made to the company.
The suggestions Musk discussed included making Twitter’s premium service ad-free, even though the company relies on it for 90 percent of its revenue.
Musk’s other suggestions also include asking users if they want an edit button for tweets, and whether Twitter should turn its headquarters in San Francisco into a homeless shelter, due to the continued absence of any employees there, due to the emerging Corona virus pandemic. .
