A woman discovered the truth she described as “destroying”, after a thin brown line under her fingernail for 10 years, according to the British newspaper, “Mirror”.
The source said that American Maria Silvia first noticed the “dark brown mark” 3 years ago, but considered it normal.
The color of the line was initially pale, before turning to dark brown about a year after its first appearance.
After a long period of doubt and suspicion, Maria received a “shocking and devastating” news, after doctors told her that what was under her nail might be a “cancerous tumor that spreads in the skin.”
Maria Silvia had to undergo surgery, to remove her infected nail, along with part of her bone.
Doctors say that the dangerous “melanoma” may arise and remain hidden for up to 13 years, before it comes into existence, which means that Maria has been suffering from the line for nearly 10 years.
