A rare 3D Pokémon Charizard card from the 1999 first edition Pokémon Base Set sold for $420,000 at auction.
The price of the Pokemon Charizard card soared to an all-time high for a basic deck card of its kind, according to PWCC Marketplace, which recently sold the card during its March auction period.
“This historical piece of art designed by the famous artist Mitsuhiro Arita is easily the most popular Pokémon card ever,” the card trading platform wrote of the famous Japanese illustrator.
The card features a perfect mint condition card rating, and of the 3,000 copies of this card, only 121 hold up to this rating, as noted by the PWCC in the card description on their website, on a scale of zero to 10.
A large number of hobbyists are interested in collecting Pokémon cards that have made an increasingly competitive case with hobbyists in recent years, including one that sold for $336,000 earlier this month. In late 2020, a Charizard card from a similar group sold for a total of $360,000.
And one of the best-selling Charizard cards last year went with more than $490,000.
