Cannes Film Festival bans participation of delegations and Russian works

The management of the Cannes International Film Festival issued a statement on the situation in Ukraine, and announced the ban on the participation of delegations and Russian businesses.
In the statement, she said that since the world is in severe crisis with a part of Europe finding itself at war, the Cannes Festival wishes to extend its full support to the people of Ukraine and all those on its territory.
“We join our voices with those who oppose this unacceptable situation and denounce the position of Russia and its leaders,” the statement added.

And she continued, “Our thoughts turn in particular to Ukrainian artists and film industry professionals, as well as their families whose lives are now at risk. There are those we have not met before, and those we have met and welcomed in Cannes, and who have come up with works that talk a lot about the history and present of Ukraine. “.

The festival management stated: “During the winter of 2022, the Cannes Festival entered the preparation stage… Unless the war ends in conditions that satisfy the Ukrainian people, we have decided that we will not welcome official Russian delegations and will not accept the presence of anyone associated with the Russian government.”
