The number of users of the Facebook social networking site decreased for the first time in its history, during the last quarter of last year
Meta, the parent company of Facebook, reported that there were 1.929 billion daily active users during the last three months of 2021, while it was reported that in the third quarter of 2021 there were 1.93 billion active users on average, meaning that it lost Nearly a million users during that period.
The lack of “Facebook” numbers comes in conjunction with a 22 percent drop in its stock in pre-market trading after its fourth-quarter earnings.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg admitted on the company’s earnings call that “the company’s social media business faces stiff competition.”
“People have a lot of choices about how they want to spend their time, and apps like TikTok for videos are growing very fast,” he said.
He added that his company will focus during the coming period on “Rails”, which is the short video feature on the “Instagram” site, which is very similar to “Tik Tok”.
It is noteworthy that the company “Meta” concluded last year 2021 in a turbulent manner, after the former employee of “Facebook”, Frances Hogan, testified before lawmakers in America and abroad, and said that the company constantly put profits above the safety of its users.
The company also launched a huge brand, “Meta”, which has become an alternative to the name “Facebook”, and announced that it will focus on the so-called “Metaverse”, rather than just social media.
