Rare and beautiful scenes .. the Algerian desert studded with ice

Algerian activists published pictures of a desert area in their country partially covered with snow, on the fifth occasion in the past forty years.

Photographer Karim Bouchtata posted on his account on “Instagram” photos and videos of snowfall and a blanket of snow dotting barren desert areas near the town of Ain As Safra, northwest of Algeria.

In these photos, the desert appears in a new look, and the area known for its high temperature is decorated with blankets of ice in stunning scenes that combine contrasts.

It was reported that the temperature in the Algerian town of Ain al-Safra, at the time of taking these photos, recorded two degrees below zero, which contributed to the formation of this rug of ice in this desert region, which specialist scientists confirm that it was in ancient times a rainy region full of forests and rivers.

The town of Eid Al-Safra is located on the Atlas mountain range in northwest Algeria, in an area that reaches an altitude of 1078 meters above sea level.
