The Russian newspaper “Life” had said that the wolves of Novgorod province, which face starvation in the winter, had left the forests and headed towards villages and towns. The newspaper assumed that the cause of the famine among the wolves lies in the decline in the numbers of beavers and wild boars, which were killed last year, most of them due to the risk of an outbreak of African swine fever in the region. Some statistics indicated that the number of wolves in the region increased last year from 360 to 420 wolves.
