Filipino artist paints on the back of dead cockroaches

A Filipina artist turns dead cockroaches into miniature artwork inspired by the work of classic European artists, Oddity Central reports.

The site indicated that this unusual creative idea came to mind Brenda Delgado, 30, while she was removing some dead cockroaches from her workplace in Manila.

Brenda noticed how shiny and smooth the crickets’ wings were, and found that they were suitable for drawing on them. She began using oil paints to recreate small copies of classic masterpieces such as Van Gogh’s “Starry Night” or Vermeer’s “The Girl with a Pearl Earring.”

And soon her works began to attract the attention of the public online.

“To my fellow artists: Don’t be afraid to explore your talents and challenge yourself to do the things you think are impossible,” the illustrator wrote in one of her Instagram posts.

Brenda Delgado’s unconventional paintings received mixed reactions, with some social media users praising their originality, while others accused her of cruelty to animals, even if the insect she uses was found dead and not killed to serve as paintings.

“It sounds cruel. I don’t think I would appreciate someone coming to me breathless on a hospital bed to draw half of my body,” wrote one of her critics. “If the cockroach is already dead, so be it – but it sounds cruel and violent.”
