On January 13, the first major concert of the new year for world opera star Placido Domingo will be held on the historical stage of the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow.
It is customary for the ceremony to be held on New Year’s Day, according to the Julian time, which is still traditionally celebrated by the inhabitants of Russia. The singer’s friends and colleagues participated in the ceremony.
This was reported by a spokeswoman for the “Bolshoi” Katerina Novikova, who said that the ballet “The Nutcracker” is traditionally performed in Moscow on the European New Year’s Day. As for Placido Domingo’s party, it takes place on the Russian New Year’s Day (January 13th).
She added that the stars of contemporary international music, along with young artists, participated in the ceremony, including Anna Netrebko, Eldar Abdul Razakov, Peter Bashala, Yusuf Aivazov, Michael Foley and others. She said that the maestro invited everyone to attend the “Bolshoi” where the concert is being held.
It is worth mentioning that strong relations and close cooperation have been established for a long time between Placido Domingo and the “Bolshoi Theater”, which has more than once witnessed his performance as an opera singer, conductor and teacher who gives singing lessons to young artists.
It is worth noting that Placido Domingo was born on January 21, 1941 in Madrid. He performed in opera houses “Covent Garden” (London), “Metropolitan Opera” (New York), “La Scala” (Milan), “Mariinsky Theater” (Petersburg) and others. He performed various roles in the opera “La Traviata” by Giuseppe Verdi, “Turandot” by Giacomo Puccini, “Carmen” by Georges Bizet, “Faust” by Charles Junod and others, and he won 7 Grammy Awards (1984-2000).
The first performance of Placido Domingo in Russia took place in 1974 at the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow during the La Scala troupe’s world tour. Since then, Domingo has visited Russia several times. On January 21, 2021, Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated the famous Spanish artist on his 80th birthday.
