Do Cloth Face Masks Repel Omicron?

Doctors found that cloth face masks do not provide sufficient protection against corona infection, especially after the spread of the “Omicron” variant, and experts recommend the need to wear stronger medical masks, according to what was published by the media.

Health experts know that the types of masks some wear play a direct role in helping to protect us. But some doctors have compared the cloth masks that have become widespread as “face decorations” and are insufficient for protection.

Doctor Lina Wayne, according to the American “CNN” network, explained that these masks “have no place and are useless in light of Omicron.”

As for what Wayne thinks people should wear, she added, “We need to wear at least a three-layer surgical mask. You can wear a cloth mask over that, but don’t just wear a cloth mask alone.”

Wayne recommends that everyone wear KN95 or N95 masks for maximum protection.

According to the “Wall Street Journal” report, many infectious disease experts have noticed that people prefer cloth masks because they are more comfortable and fashionable to wear, but these masks can only block large droplets that carry the virus, but they are not effective in blocking the ultra-small particles that carry the virus, According to infectious disease specialists.

And Thursday, the Mayo Clinic required all patients and visitors to wear surgical masks or a “N95” or “KN95” mask to enter the hospital building.

For her part, Monica Gandhi, an infectious disease specialist at the University of California, San Francisco, said: “If you don’t really want to be exposed (to the virus), you have to wear the right type of mask.”
