When it comes to playing board games at Christmas, there are many popular choices.
Whether it’s Monopoly, Cluedo or Trivial Pursuit, the day truly wouldn’t be the same without an argument breaking out over who won the game.
While it is well-known that the Royal Family is allegedly banned from playing Monopoly as the competition grows too “vicious”, there is a popular game that Prince William confessed he is yet to play with his young children.
There are many traditional games and customs that surface during the festive season and one that has taken the world by storm is the Elf on the Shelf game.
While the book has been around since 2005, it’s only in the last few years that the game has really taken off.
For those who are unaware of the popular Christmas game, the story goes that Santa’s elves fly to the North Pole each night of December to report to Santa if your children should be on the Naughty or Nice List.
The elves then fly back to your home and hide in a new spot for the children to find him the next morning.
Typically, the cheeky elf will cause mischief with his hiding place which just adds to the festive fun!
While children up and down the country have fallen in love with the game, it seems Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis are yet to play it.
Prince William revealed that he had never heard of the game during a Christmas interview for the Royal Marsden Hospital radio station.
In the interview, the Duke of Cambridge – who is the patron of the hospital – was asked sweet festive questions that had been sent in by young listeners.
One little boy named Theo asked Prince William: “I love Elf on the Shelf – is Elf on the Shelf coming to your house?”
Slightly puzzled by the question, Prince William replied: “So Theo, I don’t actually know what Elf on the Shelf is, but it sounds quite fun and I’d quite like to have an Elf on my Shelf in my house.”
The interview also saw the prince make many other festive revelations.
William revealed that the Will Ferrell classic Elf is his favourite Christmas film and José Feliciano’s Feliz Navidad is his favourite Christmas song.
