John Travolta has penned an emotional message to wish his late wife a happy birthday.
The actor, 67, took to Instagram on Wednesday to share his heartbreaking post on what would have been Kelly Preston’s 58th birthday.
The Jerry Maguire star passed away in July 2020 following a two-year battle with breast cancer.
John and Kelly were married for 29 years after they met at a screen test for The Experts. The pair had three kids together, son Jett, daughter Ella Bleu, and a second son, Benjamin.
The Grease star posted a sweet picture of the actress at the Cannes Film Festival as she smiled and waved on the red carpet. He wrote alongside it: “Happy Birthday Kelly. We miss and love you very much.”
Daughter Ella shared a comment on the post by simply leaving three love heart emojis.
She posted a personal tribute on her own Instagram page, sharing a throwback image of her mum alongside the caption: “Happy Birthday Mama, I love and miss you so much.”
John recently appeared on Kevin Hart’s talk show Hart to Heart and told the comedian that he has had to discuss mortality with his 10-year-old child Ben following Kelly’s death.
The Pulp Fiction star admitted that his son had touched upon the subject in a previous conversation and was very honest about his feelings.
The star told his fellow actor: “[Ben] said to me once, ‘Because mom passed away, I’m afraid you’re going to.”‘
John pointed out how he was different from Kelly and tried to explain the situation to his son.
“I said, ‘Well, it’s a very different thing.’ And I went through the differences about my longevity and her limited life,” he continued.
He then told his son: “‘But you know, Ben…you always love the truth and I’m going to tell you the truth about life. Nobody knows when they’re gonna go or when they’re going to stay.”‘
In 2009, John and Kelly’s eldest son tragically died while on holiday in the Bahamas.
Jett, who had autism, suffered a seizure during the family’s getaway to the Bahamas over the New Year break.
He had a history of seizures and had collapsed in the bathroom and hit his head, later being declared dead in hospital.
He was aged just 16 when he died.
