Monday witnessed a rare public appearance of Ivanka Trump, the daughter of former US President Donald Trump, and her husband, Jared Kushner, inside the Israeli Knesset.
Trump and Kushner attended the inaugural meeting of the Knesset committee dedicated to promoting normalization deals, the “Abraham Accords”, brokered by the United States of America, and which both helped put together when they were senior advisers to the former US president, according to the Israeli newspaper, “Haaretz”.
A statement said that today’s gathering aims to strengthen the Abraham Accords, led by MK Ruth Wasserman Land of the “Kahol Lavan” party, and Ofir Akunis of the Likud party, and will also work to strengthen economic and tourism relations with the other countries party to the agreements.
The statement added that the parliamentary group will also work on “drafting future agreements with other countries”, without clarifying the part that lawmakers can have in any future negotiations.
For his part, Jared Kushner thanked “many people” who participated in promoting normalization agreements and said that “the Middle East is undergoing change.”
He added that cooperation and focus on the economy will make “our dream of peace a reality.”
The Knesset meeting was attended by Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz and Knesset Speaker Mickey Levy, along with diplomats from the United Arab Emirates and Morocco, who normalized relations with Israel as part of the Abraham Accords along with Bahrain.
