The British Royal Navy announced today, Thursday, the appointment of “James Bond” heroine, British actor, Daniel Craig, as an honorary service commander, the same rank held by the fictitious British secret agent.
On honoring Daniel Craig, First Naval Lord Admiral Tony Radakin, Commander of the Royal Navy, said Craig “has been known as Commander James Bond for the past 15 years, a naval officer who keeps Britain safe by performing missions around the world.”
“That’s what the real Royal Navy does every day, using technology and skill in the same way as Bond himself.”
For his part, Daniel Craig confirmed in an official statement that he was honored to be appointed to the rank of Honorary Commander in Senior Service.
In the James Bond novels by Ian Fleming, James Bond is a World War II veteran, a British intelligence agent with a “license to kill.”
The announcement of Daniel Craig’s appointment as an honorary naval officer came days before the release of the latest James Bond film, “No Time to Die”, which testifies to his fifth and final appearance as the famous British spy.
The film will be released on September 30 in Britain, and October 8 in the United States, after delays that lasted 18 months due to the Corona virus.
Daniel Craig has been playing the role of “James Bond” since 2006, beginning with the movie “Casino Royale”.
