A woman, the youngest member of the US Congress, sparks controversy with what she wrote on her dress at the “Met Gala”

A woman, the youngest member of the US Congress, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, sparked controversy on social media because of the political message she wrote on the dress she attended the annual Met Gala in New York on Monday.

Cortez attended the party in a white dress, but the words “Tax the Rich” or “Tax the Rich” were written in red on the back.

On why she chose that phrase, Alexandrea Ocasio-Cortez explained in an interview on the red carpet: “I agreed with my dress designer, Auroa James, that we would together express what it means to be a working-class woman of color at the luxurious Met Gala. However, we challenged some institutions,” according to the American “CBS” network.

However, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was criticized by some on social media, for attending a high-society event in a dress designed by a luxury designer.

The Met Gala is famous for hosting rich celebrities and fashion designers annually, and tickets are said to be 35,000 dollars, while the price for booking tables sponsored by companies ranges from 20 thousand to 300,000 dollars, and is always held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, 31, became the youngest woman ever elected to the US Congress, representing New York’s 14th district, which is made up of parts of Queens and the Bronx.

In the summer of 2018, she won the Democratic primary, surpassing Joseph Crowley, an experienced politician who had been a Democratic Representative for 19 years.
