Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced that the withdrawal of US forces from Afghanistan marks the end of the “era of military action” aimed at spreading Western democracy, noting that it can now turn to non-military methods.
“This is the end of the era of military operations to spread democracies. There will be non-military actions, I have no doubts about that,” Lavrov said Thursday.
According to Lavrov, the world will become calmer if the West learns from the situation in Afghanistan. “A smart person learns from mistakes, especially from his own mistakes. If Western colleagues learn these lessons now, the world will probably become a little calmer,” adding that the West will obviously continue to impose Value it over others.
According to him, “democratization” will be implemented with the help of NGOs, strengthening their own curricula in a
cademic programs and this is happening in Ukraine and in Belarus. “We have something to say about those actions that the West presents as a completely infallible line, which everyone should take as a guide to action. We respond with actions,” Lavrov said.
As for the situation in Afghanistan, Minister Lavrov stressed that Russia does not plan to mediate between the Taliban and other forces in the country, saying, “We have long asked the Taliban and all other ethnic political groups in Afghanistan to agree to the formation of an inclusive transitional government,” expressing hope that it will lead Negotiations in Panjshir to results and no resumption of hostilities.
