Palestinian engineers invent a respirator with international standards

A team of four Palestinian engineers managed to manufacture and develop an artificial respirator, in the city of Tulkarm, in the northern West Bank, in its third multifunctional version, which was considered a qualitative achievement that excelled and was unique to Palestine over many Middle Eastern countries.

A great effort that lasted for a year and a half, to accomplish the task, which was described as complex in light of the many challenges and obstacles experienced by the team that continued day and night in search, work and experiment, and electronic engineer Ali Sherida says, the engineering team communicated with hundreds of specialists in the technical and medical fields, and underwent The device is tested and checked repeatedly to be within the required standards, and with its efficiency and accuracy of work, it obtains the required certificates and accreditations.

Each member of the team had a work of his own in designing the device, in addition to the Kadoorie University administration and its president, who provided the team with laboratories and workshops, and helped provide the parts.

About the mechanism of the device’s work, Sherida says, that when the device is operated, it performs a calibration and examination of all vital pieces in it, an examination of the data, then calibration of the pressure, oxygen and fluorine sensors, then calibration of the method of measuring the volume of air entering the lung, then checking whether there is an internal leakage of air or Oxygenation, followed by an examination of external respiration, and an examination of the source of oxygen and the source of air.

If all the tests were done without any defects or problems, it allows the start of the process of artificial respiration, and Sherida adds that the device solves problems in global devices, especially the integration of oxygen and the existing air and its control.

The engineering team aspires to obtain the patent, and to generalize the use of this device in all hospitals and health centers, confirming and from doctors’ testimonies about the capabilities of the device, that it is an accurate and very important device, and is an innovation that helps save the lives of many patients.
