Germany: G7 will discuss extending evacuations from Kabul airport

German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas revealed that the leaders of the Group of Seven industrialized countries want to coordinate the evacuation efforts from Kabul airport, and whether these efforts should continue after the deadline set by the United States of August 31.

The German Foreign Minister told reporters, today, Monday, in Berlin, that the leaders of the group will discuss on Tuesday how to reach the people who will be evacuated from Kabul airport, according to “Reuters”.
He explained that Germany is looking at options to keep the airport operating for several days after August 31.

“We are talking with the United States, Turkey and other partners with the aim of facilitating a civilian operation at Kabul airport to be able to evacuate people after August 31,” Maas said.

He continued, “We will also continue to talk to the Taliban on this issue, and this is what we are doing.”

For its part, France called, today, Monday, through its foreign minister, Jean-Yves Le Drian, to extend the deadline for evacuations from Afghanistan, which is scheduled for August 31.

It is noteworthy that on August 15, the “Taliban” movement managed to take control of the Afghan capital, Kabul, without much resistance, less than two weeks after the start of clashes between government forces and the movement’s militants, while the northeastern province of Panjshir remained the only state outside its control.
