62 victims of floods in northern Turkey

An official source in Turkey said that the floods swept through towns in the country’s Black Sea region, indicating the death of 62 people, while search and rescue operations continue to find the missing.

According to “Reuters”, the floods led to a state of chaos in the northern provinces, in conjunction with the authorities’ announcement of control of forest fires after they destroyed large areas in the southern coastal areas for two weeks.

For its part, the Disaster and Emergency Management Department indicated that 52 people died as a result of the torrential rains in Kastamoni province, compared to the death of nine others in Sinop and the death of one person was recorded in Bartin.

The media circulated video clips documenting severe damage in the town of Bozkurt in the Kastamonu region, as emergency workers continued to search for the missing in the destroyed buildings.

As for the material damage, the floods damaged dozens of cars, destroyed buildings and bridges, in addition to closing roads, while hundreds of villages were without electricity and rubble was accumulated in them.

More than two thousand people have been evacuated from the affected areas, with the help of helicopters and boats.
