3 people in France face imprisonment for collecting blueberries

The Gendarmerie Directorate in the Vosges Mountains said that its members in the city of Remermont (northeast France) arrested three people, because they had collected about 100 kilograms of blueberries.

French law does not allow one person to collect more than 10 kg of these wild fruits.

The directorate stated, in a statement, that the police found 96 kilograms of blueberries in the detainees. “These fruits are very popular among the population, but a few hundred grams are enough to make your favorite cake,” the statement said.

French law prohibits the collection of these wild fruits, during the night, and one person is allowed to collect no more than 10 kg of them (3 kg in the areas of nature reserves). Collecting large amounts of it is considered theft, punishable by law with up to 3 years in prison and a fine of 45,000 euros.
