Tunisian president says he is in contact with “friendly countries” to reduce fiscal deficit

Tunisian President Kais Saied said in a video clip published by his office today, Sunday, that there are contacts with “friendly countries” to reduce the country’s fiscal deficit, but he did not give details.

The fiscal deficit and public debt in Tunisia rose sharply last year, as a result of the epidemic, and the government is negotiating with the International Monetary Fund to obtain a loan.

Saeed added during his meeting with the Governor of the Central Bank, “We are counting on ourselves, but also when we receive assistance from a loyal and steadfast friend, we will not forget that.”

Said continued, “The time will come for me to announce the historic stand of a number of our brothers and friends, after they emptied the state’s coffers, and called to strengthen the Tunisian people in these historical moments, and we will win, God willing.”
