Thousands of jellyfish invade the Sea of Azov

The coasts of the Sea of Azov witnessed the appearance of thousands of jellyfish, some of which reached 40 centimeters in diameter, which disturbed holidaymakers.

Activists on the communication sites circulated video clips of the invasion of thousands of these jellyfish to the coasts of the sea.

In an interview with “Sputnik”, the researcher at the Southern Scientific Center of the Russian Academy, Vladimir Syabin, said that the reason for this invasion is due to the favorable conditions for the activity and reproduction of these jellyfish.

These conditions were represented by hot weather, increased water salinity, and perhaps a lack of live competitors.

The researcher added that most of these jellyfish come from the Black Sea, and when they have the right conditions, they enter the sea.

According to the researcher, the numbers of these jellyfish will increase year after year, due to the favorable conditions in addition to the low rate of fish in the sea and the lack of water flowing into the sea from the Don and Kuban rivers.

The researcher advised to beware of these jellyfish, in addition to placing barriers on the beach line to prevent their advance.
