Hamilton crowned Formula 1 in British Grand Prix with controversial victory

Lewis Hamilton won the British Formula One Grand Prix on Sunday, claiming his fourth victory of the season, despite being penalized for 10 seconds after causing a controversial first lap crash that knocked out title rival Max Verstappen.
According to “Reuters”, the Mercedes driver, who reduced the gap to eight points with the Red Bull driver after ten rounds, overtook his rival Charles Leclerc, Ferrari’s, two laps before the end.

According to the agency, Valtteri Bottas finished third after obeying team orders to let teammate Hamilton overtake him to chase Leclerc in a race that was stopped after the Verstappen accident before resuming again.

This is the 99th victory in the career of Hamilton, the seven-time world champion, and his fourth this season.

The worst result is Verstappen, who started the race from pole position with a 33-point lead in the lead and was chasing his fourth win in a row, but came out empty-handed and was taken to hospital for medical checks.

“This is a dream to do in front of you all,” Hamilton told the biggest crowd since the outbreak of the Coruna virus in Britain. “I always try to be careful with my approach, especially in the Max competition because he is very aggressive. Today I was by his side but he didn’t leave me any space.”

He added, “Regardless of my disagreement with the punishment, I accepted it and continued to work.”

It is worth noting that no driver got an additional point for achieving the fastest lap, as Mexican Sergio Perez achieved the Red Bull driver, but he finished the race outside the top ten places.
