Herds of monkeys worry the residents of a region in Saudi Arabia

The gathering of large groups of monkeys in “Jabal Murir” in Al-Namas in Saudi Arabia, around waste containers, caused the people to be dissatisfied and upset, due to “the scattering of waste and trash, in addition to the imminent danger of monkeys.”
The Saudi newspaper, Sabq, indicated that “Citizen A. Al-Shehri observed a gathering of large groups of monkeys on a waste container on the road near her house, which leads to a number of parks, and the citizen woman documented that these monkeys scattered waste and trash in the place in a disgusting manner,” and said: “We suffer.” These days, due to large numbers of monkeys gathering on municipal waste containers to eat food leftovers, and scattering waste on the road, which causes the waste to be spread on the site in a disgusting and unhealthy way, and their presence prevented homeowners from leaving their homes for fear of harm and imminent danger to them and their children.”

She continued: “These large herds of monkeys, and this view that threatens the environment and health, also threatens the tourism sector in the region, which is an economic tributary to the homeland and the citizen, and the state pays great attention, as countries have recently competed in a distinguished domestic tourism industry in various fields.” She pointed out that she “documented the presence of these monkeys and collected them on a waste container on the road near her house, to appeal to officials to find an urgent solution to these monkeys, remove their danger and stop harming lives and property, especially since the area is inhabited by citizens and their children, and is a gateway to the Mount Birr Park.” And the Al Waleed Park, which is crowded with hikers these days.

For his part, the mayor of Al-Namas Municipality, Dhafer Al-Asmari, who was briefed on these facts, explained: “One of the efforts and actions made by the municipality in order to reduce the spread of the phenomenon of monkey breeding during the last period is the establishment of sealed containers that prevent the access of monkeys to them, and special containers for preserving monkeys.” After that, the leftover food and waste are transported to the places designated for them, without the monkeys reaching them and re-gathering them, explaining that “the municipality worked on setting awareness and guiding panels along the tourist strip urging citizens and residents not to put food leftovers in those sites so that they would not be frequented.” Monkeys help in their existence and their spread.”

He continued: “The municipality is also working on intensive daily hygiene in parks and on the tourist strip, and transporting it directly to the landfill, which helps prevent monkeys from gathering and breeding in those sites,” noting that “this phenomenon is within the competences of the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, and that it has formed It has a committee from several bodies, including meteorology, environmental protection and the Ministry of Agriculture, Environment and Water, and a study and solutions have been prepared to address its situation in all regions of the Kingdom, and work is still working on financing and offering it according to what they received from the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs in circulating it.
