After 12 years of rule, Netanyahu meets with Bennett to hand over power without official ceremonies

This comes within the framework of the handover of power, but without the official ceremonies that traditionally accompany the change of government, as for the first time in 12 years, Israelis woke up today to a new government and a new prime minister.

Yesterday, Sunday, the Knesset voted in favor of granting confidence to the “change government” opposing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, by 60 votes to 59 in favor of the previous government, ending Netanyahu’s 12-year term as prime minister, while the new government was sworn in It was late yesterday evening, and it is scheduled to start work on Monday morning.

The new government will be headed alternately by the head of the right-wing “Yamna” party, Naftali Bennett, and the centrist “There is a Future”, Yair Lapid. Powers of the current session of the Knesset in November 2025.

For his part, Topaz Locke, an aide to Netanyahu, told Israel’s Army Radio that “the former prime minister will act forcefully against this dangerous and horrific government as the leader of the opposition,” noting that “Netanyahu is full of motives to overthrow this dangerous government as soon as possible.”
