Lavrov comments on the possibility of disengaging Russia from the “Swift” system

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov commented on the possible separation of Russia from the “SWIFT” system of international payments.
Lavrov said, today, Wednesday, at the annual International “Primakov Readings” forum, that Western officials did not demand the separation of Russia and China from “Swift”.

He continued, “None of the Western officials, as far as I remember, have called for Swift to be withheld from Russia or China, except for some calls from some politicians.”

He pointed out that the prominent official representatives of Western countries, not even the representatives of the “Swift” regime themselves, did not make statements of this kind.

Earlier, the Russian minister expressed his confidence that the government, the Central Bank and other financial departments in Russia are preparing possible solutions to overcome this issue in the event that Russia is separated from “Swift”.

It should be noted that “SWIFT” is an international interbank system for transferring information and making payments, with which more than 11 thousand of the largest institutions in almost all countries of the world are connected.

Recently, media reports have talked about the possibility of separating Russia from the “SWIFT” system as one of the most severe Western sanctions that can be imposed against Russia.
