The killing of the former head of the Ukrainian foreign intelligence in Egypt

Today, Friday, the Ukrainian authorities reported that the former head of the country’s foreign intelligence service, Viktor Gfuzd, drowned in Egypt.

The Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister, Vigny Yinin, confirmed that Gfuzd was killed as it drowned in the resort of Dahab, in the southern Sinai Peninsula.

This comes after Ukrainian media reported that the 62-year-old’s body was found on the beaches of Dahab and the local ambulance service tried to rescue him and he was taken to a local hospital, but he died.

Gfuzd was appointed head of Ukraine’s foreign intelligence service in February 2014 at the height of the acute political crisis that toppled the rule of the country’s former president, Viktor Yanukovych.

Gvouzd held the position for two years and was relieved in April 2016.
