A Picasso painting sold for more than $ 100 million

An oil painting by famous painter Pablo Picasso sold for $ 103.4 million at Christie’s in New York, beating pre-sale estimates of $ 55 million.

The painting “The Woman Sitting Next to the Window” by Picasso’s lover Marie-Therese, on Thursday, topped the sales of the night called “Evening Auction of Works of the Twentieth Century.”

Keith Gill, head of Impressionist and Modern Art at Christie’s London, said the painting was familiar to art enthusiasts because it appeared in the exhibition (Picasso 1932) at Tate Modern in 2018.

“It is a very impressive painting. It has not been offered for sale in an auction since 2013,” he added.

Christie’s said the painting went to a California online auction after intense bidding.

Marie Therese is the fifth work of the Spanish painter to sell for more than a hundred million dollars.
