London airport is making a change that could be the start of a revolution in the world of airports

British media reported that London City Airport abandoned the traditional control tower, due to its operation of a new technology that relies on modern cameras and sensors.

The British “Sky News” network stated that the new technology allows the operation of air surveillance “remotely” from a center 70 miles away, equivalent to 112 kilometers.

A new 50-meter tower was built at London City Airport, and it was equipped with 14 high-resolution cameras to send video and audio to a remote center located in the Hampshire area.

The company “Saab” for digital air navigation technologies in Sweden developed this technology, and it was tested for the first time in this country.

According to experts, this technology represents an important turning point in the aviation industry, because it is usual that instructions are issued to planes, from inside the airport building, whether it is related to take off or landing.

“The remote control tower aims to enhance efficiency and safety,” said Alison Fitzerald, Operations Officer at London Airport.
