A new study reveals that the best places to increase productivity in a workplace are those that give employees visual control over what is around them.

Researchers from University College London discovered in their study that there is science behind choosing your place in the office, group offices, and the ability to watch sunlight, all of which contribute to overall employee satisfaction.

They questioned more than 170 employees at the headquarters of a technology company before the emerging “Corona” virus pandemic about their experiences about returning to work from offices after a full year of working from home.

The employees’ answers revealed that they prefer to sit in offices near the windows away from sitting next to a wall, and they do not want employees to sit behind them because they find this uncomfortable for them and invades their privacy.

“The employees responded that small, open-plan spaces make them face the room with greater comfort, and it helps them to have team cohesion, exchange information with them, focus and work productively,” said lead author of the study, Kerstin Seeler.

The researchers confirm that their results are important and necessary to help employees move from work from home to office, in conjunction with easing restrictions on the emerging “Corona” virus in the coming months.
