Panama’s authorities announced that they had seized a cat that was being used to smuggle drugs into a prison.
The cat, which had been suspended in his head by a small bag, was seized near Nueva Esperanza prison, which houses more than 1,700 prisoners, in the Caribbean province of Colon, about 80 km north of the capital, Panama.
“A piece of cloth that was wrapped around the neck of the cat contained several packages, containing plant material and transparent plastic closures with white powder,” said the Director General of the Prisons Authority of Panama, Andres Guterres.
It turned out that the prohibited substances that were smuggled through the cat were cocaine, crack and marijuana.
The cat was handed over to an animal welfare association, at a time when the media described him with the nickname “narcogato,” meaning “drug dealer cat.”
This is not the first time that animals have been used to transport drugs in cells. Pigeons had previously been used in similar smuggling attempts, according to what was reported by “Euro News”.
