A resident of Alton, Illinois, discovered a secret tunnel beneath his home.
According to the American “Fox 2” channel, the American farmer Gary Machines and his wife moved to a house that was built in the nineties of the nineteenth century, and soon Machins noticed the collapse of part of the road near his house, and decided to rebuild it, only to discover the existence of a mysterious tunnel beneath his house.

The channel quoted the farmer as saying, “I walked about 20 meters inside a tunnel about three meters high and wide. I do not know the length of the tunnel and the purpose of its construction. It may have been used in the past for storage, transportation or underground railways.”
According to the channel, Machins contacted the Historical Society to find out that there were several other tunnels in the city that were built in 1840.
Machins suggested that the city administration use the discovery to organize tours through the tunnels.
