The Atomic Energy Organization of Iran: The Natanz facility incident “nuclear terrorism”

The head of the Iranian Atomic Energy Authority, Ali Akbar Salehi, said today, Sunday, that the accident that occurred in the electricity distribution network section of the Natanz nuclear facility is tantamount to “nuclear terrorism”, and that Tehran reserves the right to respond to that.

Tehran – Sputnik. In statements to Iranian state television about this incident, Salehi said, “Iran, condemning this despicable step, stresses the need for the international community and the International Atomic Energy Agency to confront this nuclear terrorism.”
“The incident that occurred this morning in the Natanz complex shows the defeat of opponents of the industrial and political progress in the country to prevent the great development of the Iranian nuclear industry,” he added, noting that “today’s attack in Natanz reflects the failure of the opponents of Iran’s negotiations to lift unfair sanctions on our country.”

Salehi stressed that “Iran reserves its right to take appropriate measures against the perpetrators, leaders and supervisors of the incident,” noting that “Tehran is seriously seeking to expand its nuclear industries and efforts to lift the repressive sanctions in order to thwart such desperate moves.”

Earlier today, a spokesman for the Iranian Atomic Energy Organization, Behrouz Kamalondi, announced that the electricity distribution network at the Natanz facility in Isfahan province had been partially defective.

It is noteworthy that the Natanz reactor for uranium enrichment covers an area of 100,000 square meters. It was established 8 meters underground and is protected by a 2.5-meter-thick wall, topped by another concrete wall.
